Interpreting Assessment Data in Science

Discussion Questions: Give us Feedback
How can I use the data from the OAT Science assessment to inform my teaching?
The purpose of the OAT is to measure the level and content of skills expected at the designated grade band, as defined in the Ohio Revised Code. Each administration of the OAT provides a snapshot of the content covered in the Ohio Academic Content Standards, K-12 Science.

Teachers have access to many different sources of assessment data. Data from the OAT is one of these sources and may be the most widely used. To use these data properly, teachers first must understand what the data can tell them about the curriculum being taught and what students are learning.

The Interpreting Assessment Data PowerPoint outlines some resources teachers can use to interpret the data from the Science OAT. It also explains how to use these resources to glean information that can provide guidance in curriculum development.

Teacher analysis of other assessments (e.g., formative* and summative classroom assessments) also are important to inform instruction.
